Yes, kids, it’s that time of year again. No, Pumpkin Spice Latte time. No, not leaves-changing-colors time (especially not here in Surf City, U.S.A.). It’s time for the annual Vegas Valley Comic Book Festival! If you’re new around here, the VVCBF (as we affectionately and lazily refer to it) is a one-day, family-friendly celebration of all things geeky that happens every first Saturday of November at the Clark County Library in Las Vegas. It’s an event I’ve attended every of its 10 years, and which I’ve been involved in organizing for nine of those years. The next one is coming up this Saturday, Nov. 4, and, yeah, it comes highly recommended.
Unlike the past eight years, Pop! Goes the Icon won’t have a table presence at the VVCBF. We’re still one of the primary sponsors, but with no new product for sale this year and tables in high demand, I opted to yield a space, which frees me up to instead sit on/moderate a bunch of panels. Here’s my schedule for the day:
- 12:00 pm-12:45 pm – Writing for Pictures
- 2:00 pm-2:45 pm – Comics Behind the Scenes
- 3:00 pm-3:45 pm – Diversity Leads the Way!
Outside of that, I’ll probably be doing what I usually do: Run around gathering social media content, playing talking head, and, for once, actually SEEING the festival from the POV of attendees, instead of being stuck behind a table. So, if you’re looking for me, well, you’ll have to actually LOOK.
It’ll also be my first time back to Vegas in about a month and a half, so I’ll be doing as much eating/drinking/hanging out as possible when the festival is not in session. But if I don’t catch you this weekend, there’ll be a next time.
(I hope.)
