My first-ever “professionally” published piece of writing was an essay that ran in the February 1993 issue of Scope Magazine, the precursor to the Las Vegas Weekly. I was 16, and although the tone of the article is a bit naive and the style obviously amateurish, the sentiment and subject matter rings true enough that I feel it’s appropriate to share it here, 21 years later (gasp), on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
