Peter Murphy wants your ticket sales … or blood, whatever

June 3rd, 2008

peter murphy
We’re not saying Peter Murphy is a vampire, but he does keep coming back from the dead.

It must be Tuesday again, because the House of Blues just let us know what tickets are going two-for-one in its weekly “2-for-Tu” promotion. And we’re pretty sure no matter what kind of alternative music lover you are, there’s something good and cheap for you in the next week or two at House of Blues Las Vegas (inside the Mandalay Bay).

Fans of cartoon metal (not to be confused with cartoonish metal such as KISS) might want to pick up tickets for Dethklok on Friday, June 7, only $23 for two. And those of you wandering around in black trench coats in the middle of a Las Vegas summer will undoubtedly find two-for-$22 Peter Murphy tickets for Saturday, June 8 appealing. Last up on this week’s “2-for-Tu” list is Sevendust, growling its way into your hearts for about the same price on Thursday, June 12.

As always, these specially-priced tickets are available only via HOB.com, and only until 10 p.m. Tuesday night. Enjoy, kiddies.

Metal up yours at House of Blues

May 27th, 2008

hatebreed
Hatebreed totally aced metal shop.

If there’s metal in your blood – and we don’t mean the usual iron and whatnot – then you might be interested in the House of Blues Las Vegas‘ “2 for Tu” offers today, whereupon you can score two-for-one tickets to upcoming HOB shows, but only until 10 p.m. tonight.

Today’s selections include Saturday night’s Jagermeister Music Tour, featuring Hatebreed, Type O Negative and 3 Inches of Blood, only $22 for two head-banging tickets. Also up for grabs is the June 4 Nonpoint/Exies/Deepfield/Under the Flood show, practically a steal at $16 for two. These are internet-only specials, so head to HOB.com – not the box office.

Other shows of note coming up soon at the HOB worth checking out: Dethklok, Metalocalypse and Chimaira on June 7, Peter Murphy on June 8, Rancid on July 3, and just announced today, Mastodon, Machine Head and Black Tide on July 17.

Get your Revenge half-price at House of Blues this Friday

May 6th, 2008

She Wants Revenge
No, I’ve never seen Justin or Adam smile, either.

Guess what today is? OK, yes, I guess it is the day you’re nursing a wicked hangover from far too much tequila consumption on Cinco de Mayo. But it’s also Tuesday, which means the House of Blues is offering two-for-one tickets over at HOB.com starting at 10 a.m. Sadly, these tickets are typically offered at half-price because the shows haven’t been selling particularly well. And sadly, one of those shows is Friday night’s Nylon Music Tour featuring She Wants Revenge, Be Your Own Pet, The Virgins and Switches at House of Blues Las Vegas inside the Mandalay Bay.

That’s a hell of a line-up. Seriously. We’ve seen She Wants Revenge three times, and have never been disappointed. The group’s last album, This Is Forever, is seriously good. Go get it. Now. Be Your Own Pet is a crazy punk band from Nashville barely out of their teens led by a super-adorable chick who sings about zombies and food fights. How can you miss that? And both The Virgins and Switches should be rad. Yes, rad.

Today only, between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m., you can get two tickets for $22. Come on, $11 bucks a pop? How can you pass that up? You can’t. Last time we bought “Tu-for-2” tickets, it was for Lupe Fiasco. And guess what? That show was sold out, packed to the rafters. Don’t make the same mistake.

Lyrics Born postpones Vegas concert

May 2nd, 2008

Lyrics Born
May 2: The day the lyrics died. Or canceled. Or postponed. Whatever.

A few days ago we mentioned underground hip-hop legend Lyrics Born as one of the “2-for-Tu” shows worth checking out at the House of Blues Las Vegas this week. Well, for those of you who would have actually wanted to see and hear his late-night performance tonight, you’re out of luck — the show has been postponed indefinitely. Both Lyrics Born’s management and record label, Epitaph, were contacted but have not replied as of this posting.

What’s up with the House of Blues and show cancellations anyway?

Good deals for all types of music lovers at House of Blues this week

April 29th, 2008

the breeders

If you’re a member at HOB.com, then you already know this, and if you’re not, then now’s your chance to sign up and get in on the deals: Tickets to three concerts at House of Blues Las Vegas (inside the Mandalay Bay) are going two-for-one today at 10 a.m. as part of HOB.com’s weekly “2-for-Tu” promotion.

First up is The Breeders, featuring one of the elder stateswomen of indie rock, Kim “yes, from the Pixies” Deal. If you haven’t ever seen this group best known for its 1993 alternative radio hit, “Cannonball,” then you can quickly grab some indie cred by doing so, though first you may want to pick up its newest album, Mountain Battles. Tickets for the May 2 show are two for $20 — so yes, $10 a piece. That’s Huntridge Theatre prices!

For you classic rock nuts out there, the original lineup of Asia is back in action, and you can get into the “Heat of the Moment” on May 3 with a pal for $35 — yep, $17.50 a pop to witness the 25th anniversary tour of this legendary super group. (more…)

Hank III: Just kiddin’

April 18th, 2008

Hank 3
Hank III is going straight to hell. And taking you with him. Whenever he actually tours again. (Photo courtesy Hank3.com)

Careful readers may have caught in our preview of the House of Blues Las Vegas’ upcoming offerings, we mentioned Hank III & Assjack was coming later this spring to countrify your punk asses (specifically, May). Well, looks like as quickly as that was announced, it was unannounced: That concert, as well as any other May tour dates for the raucous son of Hank Williams, Jr. have been postponed.

Why? We’re not sure. We asked Hank III’s booking agent about it, and he just sent us the same notice posted on Hank III’s official website: “All dates that have been released by various web sites for May have been postponed. If you recently purchased tickets, consult the location where you did so for information regarding their policy. Many outlets and venues may honor those tickets when the next tour does kick off – which we hope to be very soon.”

Hold on to your hats, we guess, for more information.

Daughtry gets smothered in LOVE

Finally, Daughtry finds its place in the entertainment industry: As LOVE’s new clowns. (Photo by Ana Dobrijevic)

Hey, remember we told you about that acoustic set that Grammy-nominated (ugh, really?) pop-rock band Daughtry is playing tonight at The Beatles Revolution Lounge inside the Mirage?

Well, for you Daughtry fans out there (and apparently, there are, somehow, many of you), you may be interested to know that North Carolina’s finest dropped by the 7 p.m. performance of The Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil before their scheduled performance to benefit the ONE Campaign. And, of course, like every celebrity but never us, Chris Daughtry and the boys went backstage after the show to meet the cast and crew.

Note the buff chick in the top of that picture: That’s Alevtyna Titarenko, one of Las Vegas Weekly‘s “Most Beautiful People.” We have to hand it to the Weekly — its shallow popularity contest posturing actually featured some pretty cool finalists, including artist Caesar Garcia, Love Pentagon drummer Courtney Carroll, sideshow hottie Lady Diabla, turntable queen Bree Delano and MMA fighter Gina Carano. And yes, we’re totally biased in listing those names.

House of Blues spring offerings: X, Seether, Minus the Bear

April 11th, 2008

X
Oh, if only we were old enough to woo you back in the ’80s, Exene!!

There’s always so much going on at the House of Blues, were we to tackle all these shows in their own individual posts, well, those HOB bastards had best be paying out bills! So instead, we’re going to run down the latest calendar for the House of Blues Las Vegas inside Mandalay Bay and give you VEGASinsight’s fully biased take on the upcoming offerings.

First up is X with Skybombers this Saturday, April 12. All we have to say is: See X before you (or more likely, they) die. This is true Los Angeles punk, period.

Let’s see … Ratt on April 17? Um, no need to go “Round and Round” on that one … Thrice, Circa Survive and Pelican take the stage on April 18 — if you’re wearing thick black eyeliner or can’t read this because your bangs are in your face, we recommend this show. (more…)

‘Kid Millionaire’ handle aside, Steve Aoki is about the music

March 28th, 2008

Steve Aoki

You have to respect DJ Steve “Kid Millionaire” Aoki: Not only is he a bomb-dropping wizard behind the wheels of steel, but he’s also the head of an independent record label, Dim Mak, which has some of today’s hottest indie bands on its roster: Bloc Party, The Icarus Line, The Kills among them. OK, so Dim Mak has also expanded into apparel, but it’s some funky, colorful hipster wear, with the Artist Series designs redefining the concept of “band T-shirt.”

So the thought of this Los Angeles-based beat-rocker doing a DJ set at Pure nightclub inside Caesars Palace is slightly unsettling. I mean, I’ve seen Aoki in a Vegas club setting before, but at Pure it seems his expert mixing of well-selected tunes will be wasted on a crowd drunken on $15 cocktails, more interested in who’s in the VIP booth than who’s in the DJ booth.

But if you’re willing to brave the meatheads and Barbie dolls at Pure on Tuesday, April 1, it will almost be worth it to hear what Aoki throws down. Just be sure to ask for a receipt when that doorman tries to charge you an extra Grant to get in the club. It might help both of you out in the long run.

This Soulja is AWOL

March 27th, 2008

Soulja Boy
You’d think after having a Top 100 single, Soulja Boy wouldn’t have to make his own clothes anymore.

Soulja Boy Tell’Em, the 17-year-old Southern Rap wunderkind behind the hit single “Crank That (Soulja Boy), won’t be coming to Las Vegas anytime soon. His “21 and Under Tour,” which was also set to feature Lil Mama, V.I.C. and Tiffany Evans, has been canceled — and that included a May 4 date at the House of Blues. No one seems to have an explanation for the cancellation — sorry, postponement:

“It’s been postponed. That’s all I know,” says an Interscope Records representative.

Maybe it’s because, despite having a U.S. Hot 100 topper with “Crank That,” the MySpace-spawned Soulja Boy’s actual fan base is as nonexistent as his future in music. Of course, we could be wrong. But we rarely are. Either way, if you actually bought tickets to this show or know someone who has, a House of Blues representative says that refunds will be available at point of purchase.
