House of Blues spring offerings: X, Seether, Minus the Bear
Oh, if only we were old enough to woo you back in the ’80s, Exene!!
There’s always so much going on at the House of Blues, were we to tackle all these shows in their own individual posts, well, those HOB bastards had best be paying out bills! So instead, we’re going to run down the latest calendar for the House of Blues Las Vegas inside Mandalay Bay and give you VEGASinsight’s fully biased take on the upcoming offerings.
First up is X with Skybombers this Saturday, April 12. All we have to say is: See X before you (or more likely, they) die. This is true Los Angeles punk, period.
Let’s see … Ratt on April 17? Um, no need to go “Round and Round” on that one … Thrice, Circa Survive and Pelican take the stage on April 18 — if you’re wearing thick black eyeliner or can’t read this because your bangs are in your face, we recommend this show.
If you were planning on spending 4/20 with Seether, Flyleaf and Revelation Theory, we’re sorry — all the other stoners already bought all the tickets to this sold-out show. Really? Seether? Sold out? People have no tastes.
Should you wish to maintain your indie cred, allow us to recommend Minus the Bear with Portugal the Man and The Big Sleep on April 23. Portugal the Man might just steal the show if their performance at Jillian’s a few months back is any indication. The Breeders — yeah, who knew? — are joined by Colour Revolt on May 2. The Deal sisters … good times.
You’ll probably hear more about this as it gets closer, but we’ll definitely be at the HOB on May 9 when the Nylon Magazine Music Tour brings She Wants Revenge, Be Your Own Pet, The Virgins and Switches to town for a night of booty-shaking awesomeness.
Concerts we DO NOT recommend: Tracy Lawrence (yee-haw!), Dave Matthews Tribute Band (accept no substitutes!) and Bandemonium Tour, featuring Menudo — wait, MENUDO?! Really? Help us …
There’s much more good stuff coming up this summer, including Rancid, Erykah Badu and Hank III, but we’ll get more into that next time. As always, tickets for these shows are available at the House of Blues box office or online at www.hob.com.
